Description
New Gold lantana is a low, spreading flowering plant with clusters of vivid golden-yellow blooms above green foliage. It usually forms a compact mound about 1–2 feet tall and wide, though plants can spread farther in a long growing season. The bright flowers attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators and work well along sunny borders, in hanging baskets, or spilling over container edges.
For best performance in Alabama, plant in full sun and well-drained soil after frost danger has passed. Water regularly until established, then allow the surface to dry slightly between deep waterings; avoid constantly soggy roots. Lantana handles Southern heat well and blooms from late spring into fall with modest feeding. Trim leggy growth to keep plants tidy. New Gold is often listed as hardy in Zones 10–11 and should generally be treated as a warm-season annual in much of Alabama, although plants may overwinter in sheltered mild sites.
