Description
Mammillaria gracilis. The Thimble cactus is a small cluster growing cactus with spherical stems that grows up to 4-6″tall and 4-6″ wide. Each stem is densely covered in small white spines. Native to Mexico, this cactus prefers warm arid environments. The Thimble cactus blooms in summertime producing bell-shaped pale yellow or white flowers. This cactus requires 6-8 hours of sunlight to thrive. The specific time varies from plant to plant but a change in color to yellow or orange indicates too much exposure to light. The ideal temperature for Thimble Cactus is between 70 °F to 80 °F (21 °C to 27 °C). Repotting can be done once every two to three years, particularly after its hibernation in spring. The hardiness zone of this cactus is from 9-11.
