Description
‘Powis Castle’ artemisia is grown for its soft, finely divided, silver-gray foliage and mounding, shrub-like habit. The aromatic leaves make a beautiful contrast with purple, pink, and blue flowers, and the plant adds texture to sunny borders even when little else is blooming.
Growing ‘Powis Castle’ in Alabama
Choose a spot with full sun and excellent drainage. This artemisia performs best in lean to moderately fertile soil and is much more likely to struggle with soggy roots than with a short dry spell. In Alabama’s humid climate, allow room for air movement and avoid heavy, wet sites. Water regularly while new plants establish, then reduce watering once rooted. Trim lightly to maintain shape, but avoid cutting hard into old, woody stems.
Size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide. Use: Silver-foliage accent, sunny borders, and drought-conscious beds. Winter performance depends on drainage and local conditions.
