Description
Native to Europe the Butterfly Blue scabiosa is a mound growing perennial with sliver-green leaves and blue-lavender clustering blooms atop tall reaching stems that attract butterflies wherever it is planted. This plant produces its beautiful blooms from late spring until first frost. Deadheading extends the blooming season and cutting back in the fall ensures a successful next season. The Butterfly Blue scabiosa can grow to about 18″ (45cm) tall with the mound spreading 15″ (37cm) wide. This plant prefers full sun and partial shade if placed somewhere that receives harsh afternoon summer sun and thrives in well-draining soil with medium moisture. This variety of scabiosa is drought tolerant and has hardiness zones from 3-7.
