Description
Hameln is a compact grass that grows densely, forming clumps of elegantly arching linear leaves. These leaves are bright green in the summer and transition to golden-yellow in the fall, eventually becoming beige. The foliage often says appealing throughout the winter. During mid to late summer, Hameln produces silvery-white flower spikes that resemble large foxtails, rising above the foliage. At maturity this plant can grow to measure 1 to 3 feet tall and wide. The ideal growing conditions of the Hameln grass are full sun, in moist well-draining loamy soil, and adequate watering, letting the top layer of soil dry out between waterings. Propagation can be done by division in the spring and foliage should be cut to the ground in the fall in order to encourage a productive next season. The hardiness zones of Hameln grass are 5 to 9.
