Description
Happy Returns daylily produces cheerful, lightly fragrant yellow flowers above arching green foliage. This repeat-blooming perennial can flower in flushes from late spring into the growing season when conditions are favorable. Individual blooms last about a day, but established clumps produce many buds. Plants typically reach about 1–2 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, making them useful for sunny borders, mass plantings, and paths.
In Alabama, grow in full sun to light afternoon shade in well-drained soil amended with organic matter as needed. Water regularly while establishing and during long dry spells; established daylilies tolerate some drought, but consistent moisture improves flowering. Remove spent stalks for a tidy appearance and divide crowded clumps every few years to maintain vigor. Foliage may die back or thin during winter and regrow in spring. Happy Returns is broadly cold-hardy, commonly listed for USDA Zones 2–9.
