Description
‘Blue Angel’ hosta is a large shade-loving perennial prized for its broad, powdery blue-green leaves. Mature clumps create a lush, architectural look in woodland gardens, while pale, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in mid- to late summer.
Growing in Alabama
Plant in rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in deep shade or gentle morning light. Protect the leaves from hot afternoon sun, which can scorch them during Alabama summers. Water deeply in dry weather and mulch around—not over—the crown to keep the root zone cool. Hostas go dormant in winter; remove old leaves after they die back. Established clumps can be divided in spring or fall if needed.
Size: A mature specimen can approach 4 feet tall including flower stalks and spread as much as 6 feet in favorable conditions. Use: Large shade beds, woodland edges, and roomy containers. Watch for slug and deer damage.
