Royal Hawaiian Maui Gold elephant ear Royal Hawaiian ‘Maui Gold’ elephant ear (Colocasia) brightens tropical plantings with large, textured chartreuse leaves on similarly colored stems. Its golden-green foliage is especially effective beside dark-leaved elephant ears and purple annuals.
Growing and Care
Plant in rich soil with steady moisture and sun to partial shade. Water thoroughly during Alabama’s hot growing season, especially in containers, and do not let the root zone dry completely. Feed while actively growing. Protect from hard winter freezes in colder parts of the state.
Size and use: Approximately 24–36 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. Suited to large patio pots and moist garden beds.
