Description
Black Magic elephant ear ‘Black Magic’ elephant ear (Colocasia) makes a bold tropical statement with oversized, smoky purple-green leaves. The dramatic foliage stands out near ponds, in large planters, and at the back of a summer border.
Growing and Care
Grow in rich soil that stays consistently moist, with sun to partial shade. Unlike many garden plants, colocasias tolerate very wet conditions when actively growing. In Alabama, keep them well watered during hot spells and feed during vigorous growth. Mulch helps conserve moisture and insulate roots; protect plants in colder areas during winter.
Size and use: Roughly 3–6 feet tall and wide under favorable conditions. Winter survival varies with location, drainage, and freeze severity.
