Description

Multipik is a productive summer squash that can supply a steady harvest during warm weather. Like other summer squash, it grows best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Give plants room for air circulation and harvest the tender fruit frequently to encourage continued production.

In Alabama, sow or transplant after the last spring frost when soil is warm; a late-summer planting can also provide a fall crop where the season allows. Add compost before planting, water deeply at soil level rather than wetting the leaves, and mulch to reduce soil splash and moisture swings. Watch for squash bugs, vine borers, and powdery mildew in the Southeast’s humid weather. Squash plants need pollination for well-formed fruit, so encourage bees and other pollinators. Multipik is a warm-season annual, not a frost-hardy perennial.
