Description
Illustris elephant ear ‘Illustris’ elephant ear (Colocasia) has broad, dark purple leaves marked by vivid green veins, creating a dramatic contrast in tropical-style plantings. It looks especially striking beside bright flowers or lighter green foliage.
Growing and Care
Plant in rich, moisture-retentive soil with sun to partial shade. Keep the roots consistently moist through Alabama’s long growing season; large leaves lose water quickly on hot days. Feed during active growth and mulch around the base. In colder locations, protect or lift the plant before severe winter freezes.
Size and use: Approximately 3–5 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide. Excellent for large containers, rain gardens, and moist landscape beds.
