Description

Apricot purslane is a low-growing, succulent annual with fleshy foliage and soft apricot to pinkish-orange flowers. Its cheerful blooms and spreading habit make it especially useful along sunny edges, in hanging baskets, and spilling from window boxes.

Growing Apricot Purslane

Choose full sun and sandy or otherwise fast-draining soil. Once established, purslane handles heat and short dry spells well, but container plants still need water during prolonged Alabama summer heat. Let the surface of the soil dry between waterings, and avoid heavy, waterlogged ground. The flowers are most abundant in bright light and can draw bees and other pollinators.

Mature size: About 4–8 inches tall and 14–16 inches wide. Season: Warm-weather color from spring into summer. Treat it as frost-tender in Alabama and protect it from freezing temperatures.
