Viola × cornuta — Viola Violet brings deep violet-purple petals with small yellow throats to edging, mixed containers, and mass plantings. This compact, cool-season flowering plant makes a welcome splash of color when many summer annuals have finished.
Growing Viola Violet in Alabama
In Alabama and across the Southeast, plant violas in fall for color through the cooler months and into spring. Give them morning sun or full sun in winter; a little afternoon shade helps as temperatures warm. Use fertile, well-drained soil or a quality container potting mix, and water when the top of the soil begins to dry. Keep roots evenly moist but never waterlogged. Remove faded blooms to encourage more flowers and trim tired growth as needed. Plants generally tolerate light frosts, but prolonged heat can end their display; treat them as cool-season annuals in much of Alabama.
