Description
The Stained Glass Hosta is a medium-sized plant with a mound-like form, flaunting lush green leaves edged in a darker green and marked by deep, prominent veins. When fully grown, it stands about 1-2 feet (30-60 cm) tall and spreads 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) wide. In the right conditions, it produces bell-shaped, light purple flowers that dangle from stalks above the leaves in late summer. The optimal conditions for this variety include well-draining clay or loam soil that stays moist, placement in an area with mostly sunlight and some shade—deep shade is not suitable—and sufficient watering depending on the location. Its fragrant flowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators. Removing spent flower stalks enhances the plant’s appearance and promotes new growth, while clearing dead foliage in autumn readies the hosta for the following season. The hardiness zones of the Stained Glass Hosta are 3a to 9b.
