Description
Coleus Mix offers a lively assortment of foliage colors and patterns for shady patios, planters, and garden beds. Depending on the plants in the mix, mature size can range from about 6 to 36 inches tall and wide. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil that stays evenly moist, with part sun to part shade. Bright morning light often brings out the best leaf color; protect plants from scorching afternoon sun unless the particular selection is sun-tolerant.
In Alabama and the Southeast, set coleus outdoors after frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed. Water containers more often during hot, windy weather, but do not leave roots standing in water. Pinch growing tips for bushier plants and remove flower spikes if you want to favor foliage. Coleus is frost-tender (generally hardy in USDA Zones 10–11), so treat it as a warm-season annual or bring favorite plants indoors before cold weather.
