Dryopteris erythrosora, Autumn Fern

Category:

Description

The Autumn Fern is a clump-forming fern known for its broadly triangular, arching fronds. When new fronds are being produced during spring they start off with copper and golden tints then they turn to a luscious green. At maturity this fern can grow to measure about 2 feet tall and wide. The ideal growing conditions of this plant consist of well-draining soil that contains moisture, receiving partial sun to shade, with adequate watering. Each plants watering needs vary from situation to situation. To ensure the plants continued success it is best to clip spent fronds regularly and divide the plant when it becomes too much for its designated spot. The hardiness zones of the Autumn Fern are 5 to 9.
