Description
‘Better Boy’ tomato is a productive hybrid slicing tomato known for juicy, meaty red fruit and classic garden-tomato flavor. The medium-to-large fruits are ideal for sandwiches, salads, and fresh eating.
Growing Better Boy Tomatoes
Give this vigorous indeterminate tomato full sun, fertile well-drained soil, and a sturdy cage or trellis. Set transplants outside after frost danger passes. Water consistently at the base of the plant and mulch to help keep soil moisture steady. In Alabama’s humid summers, leave room for airflow and monitor foliage for disease. The original variety information lists resistance to Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt races 1 and 2, and root-knot nematodes; resistance reduces risk but does not guarantee trouble-free plants.
Fruit size: Commonly around 8 ounces, sometimes larger. Harvest: Approximately 75 days under good growing conditions. Habit: Indeterminate vines that need support.
