Description
Hot Pink purslane is a low-growing, succulent-leaved flowering plant with bright hot-pink blooms. Its compact, spreading habit reaches about 4–8 inches tall and 14–16 inches wide, making it an attractive choice for sunny edging, hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers. The flowers bring summer color and can attract visiting pollinators.
In Alabama, plant in full sun and sharply drained soil or potting mix after frost danger passes. Purslane thrives in heat and tolerates dry spells once established, but newly planted specimens need regular watering until roots develop. Allow the soil to dry between waterings; soggy conditions can cause root problems, especially in humid weather. Light feeding is usually enough, and occasional trimming can keep plants tidy. This frost-sensitive plant is normally grown as a summer annual in Alabama and is generally perennial only in USDA Zones 10–11.
