Description
New Look celosia (Celosia plumosa) combines bold red, feathery flower plumes with attractive maroon-and-green pointed leaves. Plants form an upright, colorful clump about 14–16 inches tall and around 12 inches wide. The vibrant blooms add texture to sunny flower beds, borders, and mixed containers from summer into fall, and they can attract visiting pollinators.
In Alabama, plant New Look after frost danger has passed in a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Keep young plants evenly watered, then water deeply when the upper soil begins to dry; avoid soggy roots. Space plants for airflow during humid weather and avoid excessive high-nitrogen feeding, which can favor leaves over flowers. Remove spent plumes to keep plantings neat. Although celosia can grow as a perennial in tropical climates, New Look is best treated as a frost-tender warm-season annual in Alabama.
