Description
‘Burgundy Glow’ ajuga (Ajuga reptans) is a low-growing perennial groundcover prized for its colorful leaves. Green, cream, pink, and burgundy tones mingle in the foliage, while short spikes of blue flowers add spring interest.
Growing ‘Burgundy Glow’ in Alabama
Plant in partial shade to morning sun in soil that drains well but does not dry out completely during establishment. Some sun can deepen foliage color, but afternoon shade helps protect plants during Alabama’s hottest weather. Water during extended dry spells and allow room for the spreading runners. Avoid persistently wet sites, especially where summer humidity is high.
Size: Foliage generally stays around 3–6 inches tall, with flower spikes rising above it. Uses: Shaded bed edges, small groundcover patches, and mixed containers. Because ajuga spreads, keep it away from areas where it could crowd more delicate plants.
