Description
‘Ace of Spades’ sweet potato vine is grown for its richly colored, purple-green foliage and trailing habit. It adds depth and contrast to mixed containers, hanging baskets, and summer arrangements, spilling over the edges as neighboring flowers grow upward.
Growing ‘Ace of Spades’
Plant in sun to partial sun in fertile, well-draining soil. Water regularly, especially in containers during Alabama’s summer heat; aim for evenly moist soil rather than soggy roots. More light can help bring out the depth of the foliage color, although afternoon shade can be helpful in exposed, hot spots. Trim wandering stems to keep the plant full and within bounds.
Best use: A trailing foliage accent for warm-season containers and baskets. Winter care: Treat as a tender seasonal plant where frost occurs, or move a healthy container plant into a protected indoor location before a freeze.
